The 2024 Global Internal Audit Standards are now in effect!
The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) 2024 Global Internal Audit Standards (GIAS) have been adopted as the internal auditing standards for the State of Illinois, effective January 9, 2025.
The SIAAB Bylaws have been updated accordingly. Under Article II, Section III of the Bylaws, pursuant to the authority granted to SIAAB under the Fiscal Control and Internal Auditing Act (FCIAA) (10 ILCS 30/2005(f)(1)), all internal auditors of State agencies shall adhere to the IIA’s 2024 Global Internal Audit Standards (GIAS). Further, under Article II, Section IV, of the Bylaws, all State internal auditors shall also adhere to the Code of Ethics derived from the GIAS, Domain II: Ethics and Professionalism.
Updated Guidance Resources to aid in implementing the GIAS in compliance with Illinois laws have also been uploaded. In addition, updated Quality Assurance Review Coordination resources for the GIAS have also been uploaded.

The IIA has issued the following Topical Requirements:
Cybersecurity Topical Requirement – Effective February 5, 2026
Third-Party Topical Requirement – Effective September 15, 2026
Organizational Behavior Topical Requirement – Effective December 15, 2026
SIAAB has added Topical Requirements link to the Resources webpage for all issued Topical Requirements.
